Michaela Hatfield is a Contemporary Christian artist. She is based out of Tennessee. This is her first CD. When I first heard of her and saw how young she was I was curious as to what genre her music would actually fall into. When listening to this CD I was able to hear a few different genres. You will hear pop, country and even an old hymn on here. Her voice is very good and you could never tell how young she was. She does a great version of the hymn "How Great Though Art" which was my Grandma's favprote song of all time. So I have to say that I really wanted to hear that one but was afraid of how it would be. She does a wonderful version of it and it has now become one of my favorite versions. She also does a great cover of the Josh Turner song "Long Black Train". I highly recommend checking out this musician and getting this CD. I am really looking forward to seeing where she goes with her music ministry. Definitely an artist to keep an eye open for.
Messenger is a Christian metal band from the Nation's Capital. The band features Frank Clifton Herring on vocals, rhythm guitar, and keyboard, Tim "TNT" Tieff on the drums, Roy Richardson on the bass and to round the band off they have Vlad Gurin on the lead guitars. This band strongly believes in making "Metal for the Maker" and that really shows on this CD. This is a CD of some great metal. They have a nice sound that reminds me of the greats of the 80s and even the 70s. The message in the lyrics is all about God and they do touch on some subjects that mainstream Christian bands stay away from. They are not afraid to talk about how the "church" might judge people because of things like being rockers.Another song discusses how we need to take faith off of the back of our minds and put it more on the forefront of our minds and lives. The hooks on this CD really got my attention and the lyrics made me focus more on God and my walk with Him.
This is Messenger's 2nd studio release and they had a live CD/DVD in between the 2 studio release. I had to get those other CDs after hearing this one. I have an interview that I did with their lead singer posted on here at http://www.inchristalways.com/5/category/messenger/1.html. If your a fan of 80 style metal, or if your looking for a great CD that will challenge you on your walk with God, then I highly recommend checking out this band.
Katy Kinard is a Contemporary Christian pop rock/folk musician. She is from Nashville, TN. This cd has 11 songs on it that are all older hymns. I think this CD was a very good introduction to her music as it really showcases her great singing talent. To me her voice reminds me of the voice of angels. It is nice and calm and very worshipful. I think her band is very good as well. This cd is great for all ages. If you are a fan of hymns, this cd is for you. If you are a fan of musicians with great voices then get this cd. These songs will have you wanting to sing along as they bring you into the Spirit. They will have you worshiping God as you listen.
This CD East West is my second experience with the band Collington, who is based out of Providence, RI. Collington fits into the singer/songwriter sub-genre of rock. The man behind Collington is James Collington and besides music he also likes to surf, and he sometimes incorporates some of the surf rock elements into his music but makes them his own sound. Please pray for him as he believes in going wherever he is lead and he is building a strong music/surf ministry. God is really using him to reach the lost and help guide them to Him.
Now for the review of the CD. Once again the songs are wonderfully written and they glorify God. The instrumentation on this is as good as, if not better than, what I have come to expect from this band. The singer's voice strongly reminds me of the singer songwriter Ryan Adams, and to me that is a very good thing. This music will help get your focus on God. It is also great sit back and relax music. Overall I have to say that this is an exceptional CD and that I highly recommend getting it. If you liked the first CD that I did a review on (Into The Sea) you will really like this one as well.
Joe Lane is a multi-talented individual who is the bassist for More Than Sparrows. He runs his own production company. As well as many other things. He keeps a very busy schedule and on top of all of that he has recently released his second solo album, Day Of Judgement, as well as starting work on his next solo release. He has a strong passion for serving God and he definitely glorifies God in his music. He is also looking at starting to tour outside of his home area. I forgot to mention that he is also currently attending college full time. Please pray for him as he undertakes all of this as I am sure it can not be an easy thing to do.
Now for the review of Day Of Judgement. This CD is very good. To me it is telling the story of the end times aka judgement day. The musicianship on this is very well done. In Joe's vocals you can hear the emotions of someone who knows it is the end and is sad for those that are not saved. It starts out with a song(Urgency) about how when somebody we cared about died we were there but where were we when they were alive. It is a very great point. How many times has someone close to me died that I wish I would have seen more when they were alive? Way too many. This song puts it into perspective. On this album, He also talks about how God may tell us to walk into the darkness in order to shine our light but if we are not careful we can become lost in the darkness. Great songs throughout the album.
In closing I can say that God has given Joe Lane a talent that he is using to glorify God all the way. He really is a blessed musician and also a very nice guy. I have talked to him and have become friends with him. Hopefully some day he will be able to do a concert close to where I live. If you are into experimental music that is full of emotions and passion for God then I highly recommend this album. Also if you can find a copy of it you just might want to check out his first CD as well. Also check out the interview that I did with him. You can find the interview here at http://inchristalways.weebly.com/5/category/joe%20lane/1.html. You can find this CD on Spotify and Amazon but you can show him more support by getting it from his store http://joelanemusic.bigcartel.com/ where he has a great deal running. You get this and his first CD for a good price.
This album originally came out back in 1988. This CD and band really changed the Christian metal scene and broke new ground. I unfortunately have just heard of this band when all the hype about this remaster started. So this review will be based on this very limited edition of the album instead of the album itself. However I can say that I really enjoyed this CD and it is in constant rotation on my ipod. I wish this band was still around making music because their message is very powerful. In order to review this CD I ended up buying a previous edition of it that I was lucky to find on CD at the bookstore at my church. This new edition was limited to 300 and is only on vinyl picture disc. The production on this seems to be much better. Roxx Records really did a great job bringing out all of the elements of this album and making sure that they released a quality recording. I really like how they brought out all the instruments and cleaned it up. I am definitely looking forward to any other reissues that Roxx does and hope that they keep up the great work.

Hour6 is a Christian rock band from Southern California. The band members are Gerrit Wind (Guitars/Vocals), Kevin Czarnecki (Guitars/BGV), TJ Rinker (Bass/BGV), and Luke Huisman (Drums). This is their second CD from what I can find online. They have a really nice rock sound and they can get you moving. The songs have really great hooks that will grab your attention and then the lyrics will pull you in and open up your eyes. and guide you to God. They have what I consider to be an anthem on this CD called We Are The Ones. It talks about how we are the ones who can make a difference and how we will stand and remain. This song really gets you motivated to go out and spread the Good Word and let others know about what Jesus did for all of us. Another song that I really enjoy on this is Fists On Fire. This one shows their more rocking side. It talks about how there is a war at our door and we are ready for it with our fists on fire. That is basically talking about spiritual warfare and the fire is the Spirit of God that is helping us defeat the evil one. This whole C is good and I highly recommend it. God has really given this group great talent and they are using it to further His kingdom. I would really like to catch them in concert someday because judging by the energy on this cd I can only imagine how great they are live and how much more powerful their message is in person.
Sweet Crystal is a progressive Christian band from Detroit, Michigan. The band members are Marq Andrew Speck (keys/vocals), Bill Blatter (Guitars / vocals), Steve Wieser (Drums), and Marty Zarski (bass/vocals). This band has won multiple awards in the Detroit music scene. In fact in the 22nd Annual Detroit Music Awards they won all 5 awards in the "Outstanding Gospel/Christian" category. I think that is awesome but at the same time that gets you expecting some great music on their CD. Well I can say that those expectations did not lead to disappointment. This is their 3rd CD and I enjoyed everything about it.. The lyrics were great and they had a very powerful message. The singers sounded very good as they delivered the message. The keyboards were nice and clear and stood out. The rest of the instruments were very good as well. This CD made me go back and check out there other 2 CDs. They were both great as well. They kind of reminded me of bands like Styx and Yes. After being a fan of bands like that I was very happy to come across Sweet Crystal, I am now officially a fan of theirs after this album. If you like music that is in the progressive side of things then I highly recommend this band.
Your Chance To Die is a melodic death metal band from Camden, SC. The band features Missi Avila on vocals, Coca Avila and Chase Crouch on the drums and Thomas White on the drums. This is their second cd to be released on Red Cord Records and my first time hearing this very talented band. I have to admit that I was thinking that this was a male singer until I went to Facebook and read their bio. I am very impressed that this is a female singer and she proves that women can growl as good if not better than men. The musicianship on this is very good as well. This band just shines through on this release. If you want to hear some great metal with some wonderful growling check this band out!

Coldrain is a hard rock band from Moberly, MO. The band features Jessica Weaver on vocals, Jesse Dunivent on guitar/vocals, Nathan Weaver on the drums, Victoria Weaver on the bass, and Isaac Tanner on the guitar. This band comes together and makes some good music with a great female singer, and good instrumentation. The songs are all spirit-filled and definitely speak of God. The songs deal with being empty inside, living in a cold world, death, and about how without God we really will not make it anywhere. God is the solution to all of life's peoblems. With God we are never alone as He is always by our side, and helping us make it. This CD to me was a great reminder of those things. They definitely do it the right way and help expand the kingdom of God. I recommend this CD if your looking for a great rock CD with a female singer that does not hold back on certain issues. I really look forward to what this band is going to do next.Links
